ECT, or electroconvusive therapy was used at the Asylum beginning in the 1940's. It was a successful form of treatment for depression.
At first, the treatment was given "unmodified", without anesthesia which often produced unpleasant side effects. In the 1950's, treatments were given "modified" and anesthetics, like Sodium Pentothal and muscle relaxants were used.
ECT was first introduced at the asylum in 1946.
